About Silkens
Silken Windhounds are a type of Sighthound, similar to that of a Whippet or Greyhound. They are NOT a mixed breed, but a purebred dog that is UKC accepted and aiming for AKC acceptance. The Silkens, as most purebreds, were derived from mixed breed dogs- including Lurchers (Whippet/Shetland Sheepdog crosses) and the purebred Borzoi.
The image of the breed was a medium sized, long hair Sighthound that could not only be a family dog that doesn't bite - but a do-anything dog. Silken Windhounds are one of the most biddable sighthound breeds and perform in many sports, from Racing, Lure Coursing, Conformation, Dock Diving, Scent work, Agility, and more.
